Costa Rica, Pacific Ocean, Nature Photo Gallery

Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

These photos were taken from Manual Antonio Park through to Tamarindo (the

Central, to Pacific North West).  All of the photo were taken on either self guided tours,

or professional tours that the owners have been on.  Some of the shots were simply

taken around town.

We have been on 7 tours so far on 3 trips and were able to see so much wildlife we

still find it unbelievable.  This is a just a small sampling of what you may come across.

Make sure you take a decent camera and have it with you.

Sleepy Ant Eater

Taken on a Mangrove Tour

Ant Highway

Bat

We would never have spotted this little guy camped out on the underside of a banana leaf if our guide hadn't noticed the guano he left at the bottom of the tree.

Boa

A Boa Constrictor taken on a night time mangrove tour. We highly recommend a night time mangrove tour with a professional tour operator.

Boatbilled Heron

Central America Racoon

Also known as the Coati, or White Noise Coati

Beach Crab

This is a fairly common crab found just off the ocean, on some of the creeks, and other wet areas.

Crocodile - Close Up

Crocodile Bridge

Crocodille Bridge betwen Jaco and San Jose is a great place to spot lots of Crocs.

Night Time Crocodile

Another photo from a night time mangrove tour. Do you think either the fish, or the crocodile realizes the other one is there?

Poison Dart Frog

Apparently if you don't have any open cuts or sores you can hold on to them for a while before you hand will start to go numb.

Green Parrot

This guy just happened to be hanging out on a hydro wire.

Friendly Gecko

Gecko's are all over down in Costa Rica. You'll likely hear them at night (they sound like someone kissing loudly)

Green Backed Heron

Taken using the zoom lense of our tour guide.

Howler Monkey

Taken on a Mangrove tour out of Tamarindo. To see some of the spider monkeys, or white faced monkeys you need to get on a little bit further out of town, but easily doable on some of the day trip tours. The squirrel monkeys are a far bit further south.

Iguana - Close Up

Iguanas are fairly easy to spot

Another Iguana

Vultures

There was a tree full of black vultures

Transparent Butterfly

There are many types of butterflies and moths. This is an example of a clear wing butterfly.

Rope Bridge in the Sky

An example of a bridge on a tour that takes you to the top of the rain forest.

Anhinga

These "fishing birds" are often seen drying off with there wings open.

Lizard

This is the type of lizard that can run on water for short distances. Known as Basilisks or Jesus Christ Lizards.

Basilisk Lizard

The basilisk lizard comes in many sizes and breeds

Mangrove Snake

Another picture from the night time mangrove tour we went on. You see different types of animals at night that you would seldom see during the day.

White Faced Monkey Tour

On an estuary (mangrove tour) near Quepos. A white faced monkey shown with one of the condo owners. Most of the photos you see on this site were taken with the camera shown in this photo.

Lagoon

You can see so many varieties of birds and other animals at a lagoon. You need to see this picture in larger size to really appreciate all of the animals shown in it.

Scarlet McCaws

Taken near Jaco. One of the world's best bird sanctuaries is at Carara Reserve

Sloth

Just hanging out at Manual Antonio National Park

Orange Collared Manakin - Bird

This bird makes a noise like fingers snapping when it wants to attract a mate.

Estuary Tour

Roseate Spoonbill

Squirrel Monkey

For those we want to take in more of Costa Rica we can also help you to book rooms near Manual Antonio National Park. This photo was taken from a small resort in Quepos were we have stayed.

Unusual Lizard

I'm not sure what type of lizard this is. Drop me an e-mail if you know.

Snowy Egret

Taken on a mangrove estuary tour

Curious White Faced Monkey
