Canmore Skiing Details

What do other skiers have to say about the amenities and location

"The condo was absolutely fabulous.  It was cozy and convenient with all the modern amenities we could possibly want.  It was the perfect location for going out at night in Canmore as well as easy access to Banff Park and the various ski hills.  We especially liked the roof top hot-tub.  It was a great way to relax after a day on the slopes."

Natalie Coombs -- Toronto

Skiing and Snowboarding
Sunshine, Lake Louise, and Mount Norquay, offer a tri-pass for those who want to enjoy all three mountains for a special price.

The area ski season normally starts late November and continues through to early May.  Click here for more details and driving times to the local resorts listed below.

  • Lake Louise (60 minute drive) the largest ski/snowboard resort in the Rockies (at least until 2007 - when Kicking Horse may over take Lake Louise).

  • Mount Norquay (15 minutes) Mount Norquay has everything you need for a great day of skiing or riding, no matter what your ability.  They also offer the only night time skiing in the area (Friday nights only).

  • Nakiska (45 minutes) 1988 Olympic downhill events were held here.

  • Sunshine Village (20 minutes) Rated as Calgary Herald's Reader's Choice Award, crowned with Edmonton Journal's "King of the Mountains" award and Ski Magazine Gold medals for : Terrain, Challenge, Value, and Scenery; Silver medal for Dining.  This is the resort most of the locals go to.

  • Wintergreen (25 minutes) Slightly smaller and not world renowned but still fine for the novice skier.

  • Fortress Mountain -- Closed for 2005.  Fortress mountain is a very unpretentious ski area that caters to skiers and snowboarders who appreciate powder snow, affordable prices, no crowds, rugged Rocky Mountain scenery.

  • Kicking Horse (90 minutes) the furthest resort in the area but well worth it for the serious skier.  In 2004 it was rated the best resort for powder skiing in the world by CNN and Travel + Leisure Magazine

  • For the die hard there is cat skiing, and heli skiing.  For those who wish to go but have never been you may want to read up on the activities for helpful tips.

If you are wondering whether to haul your own skis along with your are rent you can check out http://www.skibig3.com/z04/onmountain/rentals.html for ski rental information from Lake Louise, Sunshine and Norquay.  If you are thinking about switching between resorts and want to rent skis from one place for the whole week then check out http://www.gearupsport.com/skis_main.html.
